While not as well-known as it's cousins in the ED treatment family, Viagra, and Sildenafil, Levitra is a longer acting medication, and so it effects may be noticeable for up to 12 hours after taking.
Taking Levitra
Take one tablet about 30-60 minutes before sex. The effects of Levitra can last between 4-6 hours. Never take more than a 20mg tablet within 24 hours.
Levitra should not be taken with more than one or two units of alcohol, as it may not be less effective. Although it is less prone than Viagra to being affected by food and alcohol, you should try to avoid high-fat meals when taking Levitra.
How it works
Levitra works by increasing blood flow into the erectile tissue of the penis. Levitra does not have an impact on libido, only your ability to get and maintain an erection when sexually aroused.
Effectiveness
Most men will notice a firmer and longer-lasting erection. If the treatment does not work, ask our doctors (or your own GP), whether it would be appropriate to increase the dose. Alternatively, they may recommend another treatment.
If Levitra doesn’t work for you first time around, it could nevertheless be more effective next time. Doctors often advise trying all erectile dysfunction medicines eight times before giving up.
Side effects
While side effects are uncommon, they can include nausea, vomiting, and diarrhoea. Levitra can also cause nasal congestion, headaches, facial flushing, slight vertigo, a pounding heartbeat, and blurred vision.
Nitrates and Levitra
Levitra cannot be prescribed by our doctor if you are taking nicorandil or nitrate-based medication, such as GTN spray or isosorbide mononitrate tablets for angina.
Alpha-blockers and Levitra
If you are taking alpha-blocking medicines, such as tamsulosin or trazodone, you are advised to leave at least six hours between taking your alpha-blocker and Levitra.
